How's it taste?
This wine is rich, regal and aromatic. The complex and enticing nose draws you in with lifted apricots, peaches, candied orange, pears and apples. There is also a hint of beeswax and a graphite minerality to complete the layering on the nose. The palate is opulent and viscous, yet still with a fresh and driving tightness. There is peach skin, lemon pith and a gravelly edge providing wonderful texture to balance out the full palate. – Paul Scorpo
How was it made?
Fruit for 2019 Scorpo Pinot Gris comes from the Scorpo family vineyard in Merricks North. 30% of the grapes were grown on the front block and were handpicked on 1st and 2nd March 2019. 70% comes from the back block, and was picked on 4th and 5th March. The grapes were pressed as whole bunches and went with solids straight to barrels aged at least four years old. The must was fermented with native yeasts. No lees stirring. Fined with bentonite before bottling on 19th December 2019.
