Norfolk Rise has an enviable reputation for ridiculously glorious value wines and this Pinot is no different.

Bright, juicy and vibrant, yet still tasting varietal and savoury, it's a smart wine.

More than just smart wine, it's a bloody good drink that transcends price.

Expert Reviews

89 Points - Stephen Creber - Halliday's Wine CompanionFruit sourced from estate and local growers in Robe and Mount Benson. Aged for 6 months in used French barriques. Light and bright varietal cherry fruit from go to whoa, a hint of toasty oak adding some interest. It's soft and smoothly textured through the palate with gentle astringency completing the finish.

How's it taste?

Vibrant red with a bright magenta hue. A beautifully perfumed nose with red forest fruit, rhubarb and orange blossom. A palate full of spice, mushroom and cherries with honey.

How was it made?

Situated in the heart of the cool climate Mount Benson region, the Norfolk Rise Vineyard is planted on 130 hectares of undulating coastal hills. Within five kilometres of the ocean at 37 degrees south of the equator, our Pinot Noir, clone MV6, is planted on near perfect “Terra Rossa” soils, providing an ideal level of nutrient and water retention for this fickle variety.

The grapes were harvested from our best Limestone Coast vineyards in March and were crushed and fermented over nine days. The wine was pressed gently to neutral oak where it matured for seven months before bottling.

Who made it?

Norfolk Rise is the best-kept secret of South Australia, with the vineyard in Mount Benson only planted in 2000, and the first vintage off the estate bottled in 2002. From a most underrated region that offers a unique combination of free-draining limestone soil profiles and cool maritime breezes that produce wines of exceptional quality and complexity. If the region was perhaps less remote, you'd imagine it could be a superstar, and Norfolk Rise would be the headliner. Don't miss the Shiraz, Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Sauvignon here.
