2019 Inglenook Rubicon

The Collective Review

This is a wine that we’re all very excited about here at TWC. And we’re even MORE excited that we get to share it with you, our loyal customers. Only 7,300 cases were ever made of it, and we've got the last bottles up for grabs!

Buckle up, we’re about to travel to the Napa Valley…

The production of Rubicon, Inglenook's premier red wine, began in 1978 and restored the estate's legacy of making world-class wines. While the history of the Inglenook estate dates back to 1873, the modern rejuvenation of the property began when Francis Ford Coppola purchased a portion of the vineyards in 1975.

He vowed to reunite the various parcels of land, along with the historic Château, and restore the reputation that Inglenook enjoyed earlier in its life. With input from esteemed Bordeaux consultant Stephane Derenoncourt and Château Margaux’s Philippe Bascaules, Inglenook is now firmly one of the leading properties in Napa Valley.

Rubicon is an elegant blend from the finest vineyard blocks and showcases the highest potential of both the estate and the vintage. Under the guidance of Derenoncourt and Bascaules, Rubicon proudly takes its place alongside much older, revered vintages of Inglenook in collectors' cellars around the world. Will it find a home in your cellar today? Don’t miss this incredible (and rare!) opportunity to add an icon to your collection.

A storrming, stonking Napa wine, playing at the top of its game in 2019. Somehow takes the power and concentration of Napa but makes it full of texture, life, light and shade. Espresso, liqourice root, cocoa bean, cassis, cranberry, black cherry, cold ash and crayon. Hard not to fall in love with, nothing overdone, everything in its place. Read more

Aromas of ripe berries, sweet vanilla, licorice, dark chocolate and bread crust. Notes of dried herbs and pinewood, too. So well grounded. Smooth, with a lingering, silky mouth-feel. Full body and ripe, chewy tannins. Toned and muscular with hints of crushed rocks. Firm, linear finish. Try after 2025.

A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Rubicon displays a deep garnet-purple color and bombastic notes of crushed black and red cherries, mulberries, fresh blackcurrants and cedar chest, with nuances of tar, unsmoked cigars and tree bark. The medium-bodied palate is wonderfully lithe, elegant and refreshing, featuring delicate black and red fruit layers with approachable, fine-grained tannins, finishing with a lively lift. (Tasted as a barrel sample.)

Tasting Notes

Packed dense with warm cassis, sweet plum, redcurrant, bay leaf, blackberry and a crushed rock like mineraliy, oak adds notes of vanilla, tobacco, and pinewood, the palate is medium to full bodied with grainy tannins. A Powerhouse.
