Winemakers Note

Since 2005, the year of DOURTHE’S inaugural vintage, Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac has harnessed the very best of nature, man and machine to take its place among the elite of Saint-Emilion Grand Cru wines. Cultivated on just 15Ha of vines divided into 16 individual plots, the wine stands apart more for its elegance and finesse, than its robust structure. Ruby-red in appearance, the wine’s pure aromatics are underscored by delicate tannins and meticulous ageing. Notes of violet, which are typical of the Cabernet Franc present in the blend, bring a touch of originality to this full-flavoured, balanced wine. Tasting note - Vintage 2019: « Lovely deep ruby-red in appearance. The complex, ultra-fresh bouquet combines aromas of black and red fruits with appealing floral notes. Initially soft on the palate, the wine develops in stature and is beautifully balanced, where the freshness and juicy mouthfeel coat the delicate, silky tannins. The sensation lingers in a long, fruit-laden finish, which culminates in a touch of oak. » (April 2020) Frédéric Bonnaffous, Vignobles Dourthe Director Blend: 73% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Franc To validate and formalise our environmentally-conscious practice of sustainable viticulture, we set our sights on achieving Terra Vitis certification for all our Vignobles Dourthe, including Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac, the scheme we believe to be the most true to our values. In addition, in 2018 we were awarded HVE level 3 certification (High Environmental Value), the most stringent level of certification.
