This is usually a powerful expression with bags of fruit boxed in by oak and extractive tannins, and this is no exception. The style is purposeful, with a consistent lineage. It is not for everyone, however. But nor does it need to be. It’s full of fruit – with a hedge of varietal herbal notes – but there’s nothing sweet-fruited about it, being dry-toned, structured and mouth-puckering. It is, no doubt, intended to age for many years, and with that, may come more charm. The score, a reflection of the moment rather than a prediction.
