The Maison Chanson Pere Et Fils Story
Founded in 1750, Domaine Chanson is the oldest negociant in all of Burgundy, and one of its most celebrated ‘grand maisons’.
In 1999, Chanson’s elite status was elevated further, when the Bollinger family took over the estate. They quickly modernised the winery and viticulture, installing Jean-Pierre Confuron (of Domaine Confuron-Cotetidot in Vosne Romanée) as the chief-winemaker. Jean-Pierre’s work didn’t go unnoticed either, with France’s most celebrated wine critic Michel Bettane recently naming Jean-Pierre Confuruon as one of the world’s 10 Masters of Pinot Noir (alongside Lalou Bize-Leroy and Aubert de Villaine of DRC), while his 2018 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de Feves Monopole, sourced from just a stones throw away from this wine, was awarded a staggering and life-changing 100 points from La Revue du Vin de France (a first for anyone from Burgundy).
Chanson’s wines are defined by lifted and exotic aromas, a supple texture, and rich, dense fruit without heaviness. Chanson is notably obsessed with maintaining top quality across its entire range. The regional and village wines are produced with the same precision and care as the Premier and Grand Crus, and are also artisanal in production. Chanson today occupies a unique position in offering outstanding and authentic wines from a range of both top and up-and-coming terroirs across Burgundy.

Here too there is enough wood and menthol influence to merit pointing out on the morefloral and spicier aromas of pure red berry, plum and anise. There is fine richness to therelatively refined yet generously proportioned flavors that exude evident minerality on the youthfully austere finale. This is sufficiently firm to repay at least a decade of keeping and 12 to 15 years would not be surprising.

Though concentrated, with cherry, currant and boysenberry flavors, this red is also sleek and vibrant, with bright acidity and refined tannins, showing excellent balance and length. Sandalwood and earth notes add detail. Best from 2023 through 2035.
