'For a small winemaker, Woods Crampton has achieved a lot in a small amount of time. Part of the Barossa new wave, Woods Crampton make contemporary wines, balancing character, complexity and freshness, a world away from the fruit bombs of the past'.

We can't argue with that sentiment, even if it came from the Woods Crampton website. And this prime Eden Valley Riesling is exactly what you'd want too. It's intense, it's limey, it's fresh. It's a prime Riesling for now or in a decades time.

How's it taste?

Zippy and fresh Riesling with lovely fruit density combined with a natrual minerality and zesty acidity. Delicate, refreshing and well-balanced this is a wine to enjoy over and over again.

How was it made?

Vineyard: Sourced from three higher altitude and well established Eden Valley vineyards just below 600 metres (the cut-off for High Eden regionality).

Winemaking: The fruit was hand harvested early in the morning into small bins before rapid transportation to the winery. Following a chill overnight at seven degrees overnight the fruit was whole bunch pressed. The fermentation was very cool, at around twelve degrees, and allowed to ferment to bone dry. The absence of the influence of solids is crucial to the purity of the style.

Who made it?

Since 2010, Aaron Woods and Nicholas Crampton have had an insatiable love affair with South Australia’s historic Barossa Wine Region. Unrestrained by tradition, this intuitive winemaking duo are driven by their passion to craft both new wave Barossa Shiraz as well as unique, old-world, varietals, sourced from old-vine vineyards. Woods and Crampton turned to the established Sons of Eden winery to aid them in producing the style of wine they love. The Sons of Eden focus on creating wines that express the flavour and personality of unique, Barossa vineyards. This aligned with the Woods Crampton winemaking philosophy and so the partnership was born. Since inception, production has rapidly increased from 1500 to almost 12,000 cases along with a rapidly expanding range that currently encompasses fourteen different wines. The combination of premium quality wine and exceptional value saw Woods Crampton named one of James Halliday’s Top 10 Best Value Wineries of 2017.
