2018 Rockburn Devil's Staircase Pinot Noir

2018 Rockburn Devil's Staircase Pinot Noir

Well here's an example of Central Otago Pinot that won't drain your bank account!

There's this expanse of plum fruit here that is almost not Pinoty. Did someone slip some Grenache in there? Kidding, kidding.

Seriously though, this is such an enjoyable, vibrant Pinot from a label producing smart wines.

Expert Reviews

93 Points - Sam Kim - Wine OrbitIt is sweetly fragrant on the nose showing dark cherry, mixed berry compote, floral, toasted almond and subtle spice aromas, followed by a succulent palate that is beautifully weighted and rounded. The wine offers fabulous fruit purity together with elegant savoury nuances, wonderfully framed by polished tannins. Delightfully composed and immediately appealing. At its best: now to 2022.

How's it taste?

The flavours are practically immoral, full of black Doris plums, blueberries and dark cherries. Very fruity, rich and supple with a long smooth finish and soft tannins.

How was it made?

Devil’s Staircase wines are inspired by the winding road leading from Queenstown to Kingston along the shores of Lake Wakatipu. Sourced from several Central Otago vineyards, the Devil’s Staircase Pinot Noir takes the willing down into the realm of decadence and Bacchanalian delights. Here, everything is pleasure spiced up with a bit of naughty.

The unrelenting Central Otago environment tortures the vines whose twisted limbs produce a wine worthy of absolution; strong and sensual with lashings of dark fruit, sinfully succulent and devilishly good.

Who made it?

Rockburn takes its name from the rugged, rock-strewn, burn-scarred landscape of Central Otago. The region is renowned for its stunning scenery of rugged mountains and picturesque lakes.
