Deep Woods do it again. With a careful balance between intense Chardonnay flavours delivered with a sense of restraint. Gee that Julian Langworthy is a talented winemaker...

How’s it taste?

Made by James Halliday Winemaker of the Year. Possibly Australia's best value Chardonnay. Made from select parcels of estate-grown fruit this wines shows complexity and quality well beyond it's pricepoint. Stonefruit and white blossom characters underpinned with complex notes of flint and gun smoke. It is nuanced with tremendous depth of ripe stone-fruit flavour. A hint of oak-driven character further increases structure and length.

Who made it?

Deep Woods Estate was founded in the northern end of the beautiful Margaret River region of W.A in 1987. It changed hands in 1992 when the Gould family purchased the winery, and was sold again in 2005. Today, it is part of the Fogarty Wine Group (they also own Lakes Folly, Millbrook and Smithbrook wines). The property nests on a ridge overlooking a sea of Jarrah and Marri trees, hence the name Deep Woods. It boasts 16 hectares of sustainably-managed, low-yielding vineyards segregated into 12 blocks planted to Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Verdelho, Chardonnay, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Winemaker Julian Langworthy employs traditional and state-of-the-art techniques to craft small batches of wines of impeccable quality under several different labels. The Deep Woods Reserve label is the ultra-premium range made entirely from estate-grown fruit. The Estate range brings beautiful varietal character and vibrancy while offering excellent value for money, whilst the Ebony, Ivory and Harmony label uses estate and locally sourced fruit. Stylistically they range from complex, zesty, nutty Chardonnays through to cassis and chocolate Cabernet Sauvignons displaying Margaret River typicity.

Let’s face it - we all have very different wine tastes and not every wine you find will be right for you right now. That’s why I’ve put together a little selection of my favourites - wines that I’d be very happy to enjoy this weekend which are guaranteed to hit the spot.
