Mike de Iuliis proudly takes Verdelho seriously (one of the few) and gee you can see it in this wine. The feature here is that generous fruit salad flavour, as if a whole bowl of apple, pear and passionfruit has been tipped in. The palate is round, but not flabby, and it's so juicy.

Likeable is selling a wine like this short.

How's it taste?

The nose is vibrant and fresh with notes of tropical fruit with lifted passionfruit, guava and pineapple. The palate is drier than the nose suggests with a lean racy style, attractive fruit with crisp acid and concentrated tropical fruit flavours and a honeyed finish.

How was it made?

Superb vintage growing conditions in 2018 led to the production of this outstanding Verdelho. Full of rich, tropical characters of pineapple and passionfruit, this wine makes an excellent accompaniment to Asian style dishes as well as seafood or pasta.

Who made it?

The De Iuliis vineyard is located on Lovedale Road in the Lower Hunter Valley. It is framed by the magnificent Brokenback mountain range. The property was purchased in 1987 and after several years of soil preparation the first vines were planted in 1990. The De Iluliis family vision is to produce wines of excellent quality that proudly bear their name. They make classic Hunter Valley Semillon, Shiraz and Chardonnay styles, as well as Merlot and Verdelho. A total of 15 hectares of vineyard produces a low yielding annual crush of 100 tonnes, resulting in concentrated fruit. Winemaker Michael De Iuliis aims to maintain a family tradition of outstanding quality.
