2018 Clos des Jacobins Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classe
The Collective Review
One of the sleeper value wines of the vintage. Clos des Jacobins is situated at the entrance to the medieval town, right in the heart of the great Saint-Emilion wine estates.
This location, coupled with its southern orientation, makes for a terroir that is early cropping and generous. All the cellars were entirely renovated starting in 2004, Today, it has recovered its status and won the Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classés challenge in Hong-Kong in 2006.
Clos des Jacobins is a model of complexity and balance, extremely consistent and may be laid down for at least 10 years. Hubert de Bouard from Chateau Angelus is the consultant winemaker.
While this wine is rich, it also has style and delicious potential. Blackberry fruits and touches of wood aging show it is still young. These will work together well as the wine matures and give a ripe wine full of Merlot fruits that's ready to drink from 2025. Read more

A cool and driven young Bordeaux with blueberries, chocolate and hints of walnuts on the nose and palate. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Lovely.'

The 2018 Clos des Jacobins is suave and beautifully nuanced in the glass. Bright floral notes add lift to a core of red cherry/raspberry fruit. Medium in body and silky, the 2018 is an attractive, mid-weight Saint-Émilion that will drink well with minimal cellaring. This is very nicely done.'

Round, supple, fresh and fruity, the dark, red fruits and licorice pop with energy and the freshness and soft tannins come with a nice cocoa and plum note in the finish.'

Plenty of spice, tobacco, and both red and black fruits emerge from the 2018 Clos Des Jacobin. Nicely textured, medium-bodied, and balanced on the palate, it's another 2018 that has terrific purity and elegance as well as the sexy, sunny style of the vintage.'
