It's such a pleasure to see more Gruner here in Australia, with the Adelaide Hills ground zero for the best Gruner in the country.

This Cape Barren shows all the crunchy freshness of good Gruner, with that faint pepperiness that the variety does so well. A very refreshing white wine for easy drinking pleasure.

Expert Reviews

David Bicknell - Halliday's Wine CompanionLight straw and starting show some maturation characters. Spicy florals, honey and toffee apple notes that carry over and furnish the palate twinned with a refreshing green apple and citrus acidity and really pleasant spicy aftertaste. But it's the texture that draws you back. Clean and pure, with excellent carry.

How's it taste?

Enticing floral nose of Nashi pear and white pepper spice with a pink apple and citrus freshness. The palate is texturally palate, with lots of grapefruit with pear and stone fruits characters. The wine has a lovely structure and mouthfeel and finishes with a persistent citrus freshness.

How was it made?

The fruit was hand harvested early in the morning
when temperatures were low, and crushing occurred
soon after. After clarifying the juice, fermentation
proceeded in stainless steel at a very cool temperature of around 10°C. The wine was then stabilised, filtered and bottled early to retain the fresh fruitiness.

Who made it?

Cape Barren Wines first vintage was in 1999, and the philosophy has and always will be to source the very highest quality of grapes, from regions most suited to each variety, and then craft exceptional world class wines of outstanding value. Their reds are produced from the world renowned McLaren Vale region, from vines older than 45 years, and up to 120 years old. These seriously old vines produce wines of supreme concentration and complexity not seen in younger vines.
