The Mystery Story
Our Mystery Wineries are found right around the country, some of which you will know very well. Many of our Mystery Wines are already well known to wine buyers and sell for much higher prices under their own label. But winemakers need to eat, and when it comes time to find space for a new vintage, they naturally want to sell whatever they can quickly. Which is where we come in. We agree to take a few cases of said wine in exchange for a better price (so we can sell it cheaper). The condition being that the wine can't be sold under it's original label (hence the "Mystery"). The end result is the same wine, but at fantastic bargain prices! It's simple, same wine, hidden label, cheaper result.
Why's this wine for you?

If you make Chardonnay in the Yarra Valley these days you better be prepared for fierce competition and have a thick skin for criticism. Not only is it the Queen of white varieties, it is also THE winemaker's wine. It’s a variety that demands expert craftsmanship and is unforgiving in miscalculations.

So too, does the Yarra Valley have some of the most expert and knowledgeable winemakers in the country, and boy, oh boy are they passionate about Chardonnay.

The variety has found a natural home in the Yarra Valley with its cool climate and limited maritime influences; it benefits from that long, slow ripening window.

And what of the vintage of this wine?

Well as the Halliday Wine Companion noted, in 2017 the Yarra Valley “arguably had the best vintage since 1992, and before that ’88”

What else do you need to know? It's got plenty of white peach, grapefruit and citrus and spends 10 months in French barriques for that subtle toasty oak complexity.

How's it taste?
Bright quartz-green. An amalgam of white nectarine, peach skin and grapefruit plus subtle spice notes from fermentation in French oak. Enjoy lashings of cream and butter on the mid-palate. This has a harmonious and delectable finish wanting you to come back for more.

It is attractively fruited and inviting on the nose showing ripe stone fruit, rockmelon, vanilla and nougat characters. The palate is succulent and beautifully rounded with lovely mid palate weight and creamy mouthfeel, leading to a lingering smooth finish. Delightfully drinkable.
