2017 Moppity Lock & Key Single Vineyard Shiraz

2017 Moppity Lock & Key Single Vineyard Shiraz

We call this wine the bridesmaid. That's because it has been runner-up in the famous Jimmy Watson Trophy TWICE over the past four vintages!

It must be tough to be left holding the bouquet, but nobody is complaining about the quality of the 2017 Moppity Lock & Key Hilltops Shiraz.

Chock full of plum and almond Hilltops Shiraz character and thick grained tannins. this is quality, medium bodied modern Shira.

Despite never winning the Jimmy Watson, five star rated Moppity have been killing it over the past few years, taking out the Great Australia Shiraz Challenge in 2014 and 2016 too.

How's it taste?

A delicious medium bodied palate with fine lacy tannin and pure dark berry fruits, with savoury undertones. Lovely presence in the front and mid palate, powering off towards the back before seamlessly integrating onto a juicy, bright and silky finish.

How was it made?

Moppity Lock & Key Shiraz has built it’s own reputation for consistently producing high quality, cool climate Shiraz well above it’s price point. All the fruit is sourced from Moppity's high altitude, single vineyard in Hilltops, Southern NSW. A key element of all ‘Moppity Shiraz’ comes from the art of blending small batches of different blocks and clones to produce wines that have a kaleidoscope of flavour and textural profiles.

Who made it?

“We’re lucky in Hilltops, we have a kind of balance where we can bring together the best of both warm and cold climate wine styles. You’re getting a richness and generosity of the warmer styles but seeing restraint and savoury characters, finesse and elegance of the cooler climates. And because of this, we’ve been able to undertake a very exciting evolutionary process, where we can experiment and push the boundaries of diversity rather than continue to only focus on the same handful of classic varieties as other regions. That‘s what excites me about being here.” Jason Brown, Owner and Winemaker.
