A prominent black currant aroma and ripe tannins give this wine a fine balance. The core is dry and firm, exhibiting the potential to age and certainly offering final richness. Drink from 2022.

The 2017 Maucaillou is deep garnet-purple colored with oaky, earthy, vague plums and cassis notes with an herbal undercurrent. The palate has a good amount of cedar- and spice-laced black fruit with a plush texture and woody finish. Drinking Window : 2020 - 2027

The 2017 Château Maucaillou has a charming, fruit forward style, and while not overtly powerful, it has a unique, complex bouquet, ripe tannin, and a good finish. Drink it over the coming 10-12 years.

The 2017 Maucaillou has a slightly muffled bouquet with mulberry and briary scents that need more focus and clarity. The palate is medium-bodied with light grainy tannin. On both occasions that I encountered this wine, it seemed a little green around the edges with a light, earthy and slightly animally finish.

Sadly, élevage has not helped the 2017 Maucaillou. Its dried-out fruit and slender build suggest drinking within the next year or two.
