2017 Haut Batailley Verso

6 x 750ml
The Collective Review

The core of steeped plum and black cherry flavors is infused with light mesquite, black tea and tobacco hints. Shows good range and typicity, but remains a bit shy on stuffing in the end. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2026. Wine Spectator 89 points

Antonio Galloni MW - Vinous

The 2017 Verso de Haut-Batailley is plump and rich in the glass, with lovely depth and tons of near-term appeal. Dark cherry, chocolate, spice, new leather and earthy notes meld together in this pliant, open-knit Pauillac. Drink it over the next handful of years.

Winemakers Note

First Release for Sale The Cazes family announce the release for sale of the second wine of its newly acquired estate, Château Haut-Batailley. The new label, which marks a new page in the history of this Pauillac 1855 Grand Cru Classé, is inspired by the master of imagination, Gustave Doré, in the style of true Victorian lithographs. Its subtle variations in colour bring the clouds to life in a halo of golden light. The estate’s bright and beautiful tower appears on the back side - or "Verso" in French - of the bottle. Representative of a magnificent terroir, Verso displays harmony, freshness, aromatic depth and elegance. Blend : 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot
