The Eon of Bendigo Story
Tom Bullen, Cleighten Cornelius and Andrew Brown, make up the team behind Eon and consider the project to be one which brings together viticulture and winemaking. They are dedicated to producing Pinot Noir which illuminates the Bendigo site and speaks to the vintage. Selecting the grapes (based on clones and location within the vineyard) and nurturing them through the season, requires time, dedication and patience.

The Brief
How's it taste?
A deep red ruby colour, the Eon of Bendigo 2017 Pinot Noir is an enticing and elegant wine. Fresh aromas of dark berries and ripe cherry feature alongside sweet florals, dried herbs and baking spice. The palate is integrated and complex with juicy acidity, silky tannins and a long, luscious finish.
How was it made?
The 2017 vintage in Bendigo was a great season for fresh, vibrant and elegant Pinot Noir. Although spring was cold and windy, hampering flowering, conditions for the rest of the season improved. The long, hot summer that eventuated made for perfect ripening conditions. The moderate yields meant the fruit was bursting with flavour and beautifully balanced acidity. The fruit for this wine was hand harvested from our terraced plantings of clone 777 on the Home Block of Claim 431. The small tight bunches enabled a portion to be whole bunch fermented using a combination of wild and cultured yeasts. Retaining whole bunches adds a level of complexity, highlighting the wine's silky tannins and providing freshness. The wine was then matured in a combination of specially selected new and old French barriques for 10 months.

Varietal, complex, savoury and enticing with aromas and flavours of thyme and rocks, plum and tart raspberry, smoky oak and baking spices and a touch of wood smoke. Delicious on the palate with mouthwatering flavours of red berries, plum and tart red fruits. A fine savoury core with firm-ish polished tannins, plenty of acidity and a mix of kitchen spice flavours. Best drinking from purchase and through 2025.
