2017 Domaine Alain Geoffroy Chablis

2017 Domaine Alain Geoffroy Chablis

Do you know what the biggest problem with this wine it is? There is so little of it to go around. Chablis got hit with the double whammy of hail and frost in 2017, so yields were meagre.

That means wines like this super Chablis are rarities, and especially when they're as popular as the Geoffroy.

How's it taste?

Pale gold with greenish glints. Bright, luminous and limpid. On the nose, it is rich and ripe, firstly full of flowers then going on to reveal its fruity aromas with sweet, suave notes. The taste is very powerful, wtih a pronounced minerally character that enhances the fruit and fine vegetal flavours. Its mellowness harmonizes perfectly with its vivacity on a solid structure that illustrates perfectly the special nature of the wine.

How was it made?

Sourced from vines 20-40 years old, the wine matured only in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness.

Who made it?

Domaine Alain Geoffroy, located in The village of Beine, near Chablis, produces, harvests and sells white and red wines made from Chardonnay or Pinot Noir grapes. Honoré Geoffroy developed the vineyards over the villages of Beine and La Chapelle Vaupelteigne, in the heart of the Chablis vineyards, around 1850. Alain Geoffroy expanded the property and took it to the level of an Estate. A worthy heir to previous generations, he commited to keeping the traditional family character. Today they have 50 hectares of vineyards throughout the Chablis region, including several parcels of 1er Cru vines. The wines of Alain Geoffroy are immediately recognisable by their finesse, their minerality and their long and detailed finish.
