Beautiful, ripe and sweet fruit on the nose with plums and hints of cedar and vanilla. Extremely floral, too. Medium body, creamy and refined tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Shows lovely balance and harmony for the vintage. A blend of 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc. Second wine of Château Angélus. Drink after 2022.

The second wine of the estate is the 2017 Angélus Le Carillon d'Angélus, which is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc in 2017. This surprisingly deep, medium to full-bodied, rich second wine has rocking notes of blue fruits, violets, spring flowers and a hint of minerality. It’s a seriously good second wine in a vintage that was hard on second wines.

Frost at Angelus affected around 10% of blocks for the grand vin, but Carillon (which has been from a different vineyard since 1996, together with a few young vines of Angélus blocks) was more affected and so needed a lot of selection. No second generation fruit was used, meaning they will only produce 25,000 bottles of the 2017, compared to the usual 50,000 bottles. Picking began on 13 September, followed by low temperature vinification, keeping about one-third in tanks and two-thirds in barrels (approximately 50% new oak). This has a clear, fruit-driven feel, with juicy, well-balanced blackberry and blackcurrants, and it's enjoyably frank in style for the vintage. Drinking Window 2023 - 2036

Nez riche et baroque, rehaussé d’un élevage spectaculaire tirant sur l’eucalyptus et le pin, qui précède une bouche assez puissante pour un second vin, truffée, épicée, pleine et nerveuse, bien construite. Il y en aura peu !

The 2017 Le Carillon d'Angélus is airy, open-knit and inviting. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, cedar, mint and dried flowers all grace this very pretty, understated Saint-Émilion. Just as it was en primeur, the Carillon gives the impression of a wine that will drink well early.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Le Carillon d'Angélus delivers notes of warm black plums, wild blueberries and black cherries plus wafts of fallen leaves and cinnamon stick. Medium-bodied, the palate has impressive freshness and energy with rounded tannins and a wonderfully pure finish. Drinking Window : 2020 - 2031

One of the top second wines, here you find, sweet, juicy, plums, smoke, licorice, floral scents and a touch of minerality. The silky tannins and freshness come though in the finish. The wine was made from 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.
