2017 Bayliss Road Black Label McLaren Vale Shiraz
"Ripe, dark fruits and chocolatey oak. A nice dinner wine."
"Nice fleshy texture with good tannin structure and oak hints."
"Smoky, black fruits, warm and syrupy. Dark choc/cocoa with ripe fruit."
"Pepsi cola. Bigger, richer, style. A nice, easy-drinking wine"
Bayliss Road is the second label of Vinrock, the McLaren Vale contract winemaking facility that crafts wine for small growers. As you can imagine they get access to good fruit, delivering wines like this. Dark fruited, licoricey McLaren Vale red with that classic Vale tarriness.
Enticing aromas of blackberry, dark plum, spicy oak and vanilla lead to a succulent palate that is beautifully weighted and rounded. The wine offers rich mouthfeel and texture, enhanced by excellent fruit intensity, leading to a lingering silky finish. The wine is immediately appealing with plenty of delectable flavours. At its best: now to 2023. Oct 2018. 93 points - Sam Kim
How’s it taste?
Juicy, ripe layers of dark fruits and nice on both the nose and palate. Silky tannins provide a smooth mouthfeel and balance. An enjoyable drop that would be perfect with your Friday night pizza.
Who made it?
Bayliss Road is the second label for Vinrock Wines, from the McLaren Vale. Vinrock's Luca Vineyard was established in 1998 by Don Luca, along with his sons-in-law. Initially all the fruit was contracted, but 2004 saw the first wines produced under the Vinrock label. The philosophy was, and still is, the creation of wines expressing purity of variety and regional character. The Bayliss Road label is a range of wines designed for early-drinking, with a more fruit-forward, vibrant style. Consultant Winemaker, Michael Fragos, keeps a watchful eye over the Vinrock Wines, including Bayliss Road.
