How's it taste?

Intensely flavoursome, this wine combines the intense savoury raspberry characters from the Grenache with rich plum and chocolatey spice from Shiraz and the structure and length of the Mataro. A bargain GSM for the price.

How was it made?

A blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro (Mourvedre) from vineyards in the warm, southern end of McLaren Vale.

The grapes were crushed and then fermented in 5 tonne open fermenters for a total of 8 days. The fermentation cap management program was adjusted towards the end of this period to avoid extraction of any harsher tannins. After gentle pressing the free run and the pressing fractions were blended together and then, following 4 days of settling, the wine was racked to oak.

Who made it?

Bayliss Road is a label from Vinrock Wines out of McLaren Vale. Vinrock's Luca Vineyard was established in 1998 by Don Luca, along with his sons-in-law. Initially all the fruit was contracted, but 2004 saw the first wines produced under the Vinrock label. The philosophy was, and still is, the creation of wines expressing purity of variety and regional character.

The Bayliss Road label is a range of wines designed for early-drinking, with a more fruit-forward, vibrant style. Winemaker Michael Fragos (from Chapel Hill), keeps a watchful eye over the Vinrock Wines, including Bayliss Road.
