Expert Reviews

95 Points - Sam Kim - Wine OrbitImpressively ripe and fragrant, the wine shows dark fruit richness with tapenade, chocolate tart, mixed spice and cedar characters. It’s succulent and concentrated on the palate, delivering lovely weight and fruit intensity together with rounded mouthfeel and velvety tannins, finishing long and gratifying. At its best: now to 2032

How's it taste?

Aromas of black cherry and blood plum, with a smoky/gamey meat note, clove spice and underpinned by graphite minerality. The palate is awash with a vibrancy and purity of fruit, supported by great structure and weight. It’s medium- to full-bodied, with a seductive velvety mouthfeel. The flavours are in the dark fruit spectrum, with violet top notes leading through to a long and savoury finish, and beautifully subtle oak tones. An elegant and layered Shiraz, with intensity, complexity and wonderful balance.

How was it made?

The rich, modern and powerful expression of Barossa Shiraz is a group effort from the Artisans with contributions of premium parcels of Shiraz from all 5 wineries – Hobbs, Sons of Eden, John Duval Wines, Spinifex and Schwarz Wine Company. Corey Ryan from Sons of Eden is the master blender.

The Artisans of Barossa is a group of like minded producers working together to promote and protect the art of small batch, sub-regional winemaking. Crafted from wines selected from their cellars, this is a rich, unctuous and powerful expression of Barossa Shiraz.

Who made it?

Formed in 2005, Artisans of Barossa is a group of five wineries who share a like-minded approach to winemaking and wine enjoying. The collaboration of Hobbs of Barossa Ranges, Schwarz Wine Company, John Duval Wines, Sons of Eden and Spinifex Wines represents a determined and heart felt commitment to work together to encourage and promote the art of small batch, sub-regional Barossa winemaking. Building upon their collective winemaking skill and experience, knowledge of the vineyard landscape and connections throughout the local wine community, this partnership of great winemakers – each in their own right a 5 star rated winery by James Halliday - is a considerable force. Whilst the purpose of Artisans is to encourage and promote individual expression in Barossa winemaking, our producers equally relish opportunities to work together.
