2016 Riposte The Sabre Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir
Power with finesse. The 2016 Sabre Pinot Noir layers cuts of dark cherry and forest berries with subtle spice notes on the nose. Rich fruit and floral lift lead to a finale of lingering gossamer tannins with nuances of toasty oak.
The bouquet is filled with blossom and spice, the palate moving through cherry and plum with nonchalant ease before balanced, savoury tannins (ex some whole bunches in the ferment) come on stream. 94 points - James Halliday's Wine Companion
Riposte’s The Sabre Pinot Noir has been a pretty happy hunting ground over the years. Drinkability in spades. Juicy cherry and dried herb notes with flashes of musk and cedarspice. Feels satiny in the mouth for the most part though the finish is a little more rugged. Fruit offset by tang and spice. Nicely done. 90 points - Campbell Mattinson
Medium to full red to brick-red colour with the merest trace of purple remaining. The bouquet is shy and gently smoky, with forward-developed aromas and a kiss of oak, but it comes into its own in the mouth. The wine has complexity and charm; soft, fine-grained tannins and gentle texture. There is amplitude and generosity of flavour and it is quite complex. An entertaining pinot that already drinks well. 90 points - Huon Hooke
How’s it taste?
Perfume, sap, raspberry and bacon bits. This elegant and playful Pinot Noir is light to medium bodied, with an emphasis on fresh fruit rather than outright power with soft tannins
