"Bright red, vibrant colour for a wine with 4 years age. Spice and dried fruit on the nose. Palate is rich with firm tannins, plenty of acidity and freshness left. Mouth feel very juicy with dry tannins."

Want to taste the glory of old vine Grenache?

This 2016 Mystery 96pt Limited Release Grenache comes off a McLaren Vale vineyard that is now well over 100 years old! Not bad eh? Those ancient vines translate into a beautiful full-flavoured red that has won over lots of critics including James Halliday, Kiwi critic Sam Kim and local wine guru and Master of Wine Toni Paterson.

Let's check the facts:

- Sourced from a vineyard over 100 years old.
- 'Gorgeously expressed and hugely appealing... 96pts' Sam Kim
- Made by a McLaren Vale family who've been growers since the 70s.
- Sells for $100/bottle direct from the winery.

You won't pay anywhere near that amount here at The Wine Collective though...

How's it taste?

Fine, elegant, restrained and with a touch of cedar, the nose shows floral/cherry fragrance, with an underlying hint of pepper: typical of concentrated Grenache. Oak plays a minor role in the background to allow the beautiful fruit to shine through.

Who made it?

Our Mystery Wineries are found right around the country, some of which you will know very well. Many of our Mystery Wines are already well known to wine buyers and sell for much higher prices under their own label. But winemakers need to eat, and when it comes time to find space for a new vintage, they naturally want to sell whatever they can quickly. Which is where we come in. We agree to take a few cases of said wine in exchange for a better price (so we can sell it cheaper). The condition being that the wine can't be sold under it's original label (hence the "Mystery"). The end result is the same wine, but at fantastic bargain prices! Our Mystery Wines are all covered by our full money back guarantee, purely because we know the vino in the bottle is good quality. We'll never sell below par, 'out of condition' wines. Ever. It's simple, same wine, hidden label, cheaper result.

Wine is such a subjective beast. My brother might love a wine while I absolutely hate it. But that’s why it’s so fascinating - there is something out there for absolutely everyone! So if you haven’t found something that tickles your fancy, here are a few more potential options:
