The 2016 Citran has an understated bouquet that demanded some encouragement from the glass, although it eventually revealed nicely detailed black fruit tinged with cedar and graphite. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, just the right amount of juiciness with a linear and taut, saline finish. This is a commendable follow-up to the 2015 Citran and it should give 10-15 years of pleasure.

A super-reliable, good quality name in the Haut-Médoc category. Ground coffee flavours run right through the extremely elegant black fruits, liquorice and charcoal, with a lovely seam of freshness. The tannins are just a touch too solid, but it yet again shows the brilliant quality in this vintage at different levels. The blend is 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc.Drinking Window 2025 - 2040

The ruby/purple-hued 2016 Château Citran is an outstanding Haut-Médoc boasting loads of red and black fruits, notes of underbrush and graphite, medium to full body, and a balanced, elegant texture that’s very much in the style of the vintage. It’s a hidden gem and, I suspect, a great value.

A medium-bodied, forward, soft, ripe, open wine with sweet plums, earth and spice that will drink well early

The 2016 Citran has a classic tobacco-scented bouquet that is quite austere at first but opens up with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, not complex but offering fine salinity toward the finish, which just needs a little more mineralité and detail.

The 2016 Citran is medium garnet-purple colored with scents of cassis, plums, menthol and earth with touches of pencil lead. The palate is medium-bodied, juicy, firm and grainy, finishing with an herbal lift.
