The Brief
How's it taste?
What Jean-Philippe Janoueix makes of a Bordeaux Superieur Chateau Croix-Mouton is breathtaking. This wine is so powerful, dense and complex that one would never infer such a simple designation of origin. This is of course especially true for the top vintage 2016, as always an almost pure Merlot. The recipe for this wine consists of an extremely close plant density of the vines, which leads to a very low yield per vine and a correspondingly high concentration of the must, as well as the craftsmanship and precision of the winemaker. A full-bodied taste experience, it has a lot of grip, is intense and expressive, with great length, which is accompanied by structuring tannins

Antonio Galloni MW - Vinous
The 2016 Croix-Mouton is a gorgeous wine from Jean-Philippe Janoueix. Inky and plush in the glass, with terrific freshness, the 2016 is a highly representative wine for a year that produced dense but vibrant wines. Crème de cassis, chocolate, spice and new leather inform the juicy finish in this tasty, succulent Bordeaux Supérieur. Tasted three times.

The 2016 Croix Mouton has an attractive, perfumed, floral bouquet with crushed violet petals infusing the ripe black cherry and cassis fruit. I appreciate the elegance on display here. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, well judged acidity, a pleasant saline and black olive note surfacing towards the fresh finish. This Bordeaux Supérieur from Jean-Philippe Janoueix can often punch above its class and the 2016 is one of those.
