Richness and depth of flavour, that's the play with this chunky, yet not overdone, Marlborough Chardonnay.

What is great about this Chard is that it taps into that lovely buttery weight that Chardonnay can provide. It's bold, it's inviting and gee is it delicious.

Expert Reviews

94 Points - Sam Kim - Wine OrbitThis is a delicious chardonnay filled with golden peach, rockmelon and citrus characters with nuances of cedar and brioche. The palate is concentrated and fleshy, delivering excellent fruit weight and intensity, wonderfully complemented by silky texture and elegant oak infusion. Stylish and instantly appealing.

How's it taste?

Ripe stone fruit, rich warm brioche and enticing creamy sweet nougat aromas. On the palette is peach and nectarine along with complex gently toasted cashew characters from subtle French oak. A silky, generous palate with layers of fruit, oak spice and balanced acidity.

How was it made?

Fruit for the 2015 Giesen Small Batch Chardonnay comes from throughout the Hawke’s Bay wine region on the East Coast of New Zealand's North Island, which is known for producing exceptional Chardonnay wines.

Selecting premium parcels of Chardonnay fruit, once harvested the wine is made in Hawke’s Bay to ensure the quality of the fruit isn't compromised by transporting it down to their winery in Marlborough. Following harvest the grapes are carefully pressed before fermentation.

The wine then spends six months on yeast lees to integrate its oak and add creaminess and complexity to the palate.

Who made it?

The three Giesen brothers Theo, Alex and Marcel are proof familial relationships and business can work harmoniously, with good humour - and international success. Thanks to their Grandfather sommelier August, Great Grandfather Leonhard Kaiser who was a brewer and their parents who gave the brothers a love of international cuisine – the trio had the drinks trade and hospitality in their DNA.
