Now this is a find - a single vineyard Pinot from the famous Bannockburn region in Central Otago that is literally across the road from Felton Rd vineyards.

Boy it's a classy Pinot too - sap, raspberry, meaty flavours, silky palate. It's class at every corner.

How's it taste?

With dark purple hues, this wine is wonderfully complex. Aromas of violets, plums, and cherries, are complemented by the flavours of rich dark fruits with a flourish of pretty red and raspberry on the finish. With good fruit concentration and supportive oak tannins, this wine has a lovely long persistence on the finish.

How was it made?

Our Pinot Noir is grown on our best soils in a part of the vineyard that has not been touched by gold mining. For almost 100 years fruit was grown here, peaches pears and apples originally and then Apricots at a later stage. It has been said that if you can grow Apricots then you can also grow great Pinot Noir and this has certainly been the case at Domain Road. Harvested on the 8th and 9th April 2015, the fruit was de-stemmed and fermented in three open-top fermenters. It was then aged in French oak barriques for ten months, of which 27% was new oak.

Who made it?

Domain Road Vineyard, owned by Graeme and Gillian Crosbie, specialises in award-winning cool climate wines. From grapes grown in the heart of Central Otago wine country, they produce Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir Rosé, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, and Pinot Gris wines. Dedication to excellence combined with a traditional approach means Domain Road Vineyard's wines are now nationally and internationally recognised. The grapes grow on the upper Bannockburn terraces, above the Kawarau River. The vineyards are in a high altitude setting, surrounded by spectacular mountain ranges. The challenging terroir produces wines of structure and elegance, with pure, intense flavours.
