2014 Rod McDonald Wines Te Awanga Estate Syrah
Ripe berry flavours including blueberry and blackberry, with a seasoning of black pepper and spicy oak. A youthful, high energy wine with vibrant acidity. Good now but promises to mellow with time.
90 points - Bob Campbell MW

How's it taste?
Don't be fooled, this is Hawke's Bay Syrah with flavour! Plum, blackberry, more plums. You could imagine this coming from somewhere warmer than Hawke's Bay with this depth. NICE!
How was it made?
Nose:White pepper and thyme aromas
Palate:a rounded palate of plum and blueberry characters. There's an attractive savoury element that adds interest, and is supported by fine, structural tannins.
Who made it?
About 25 years ago, Rod McDonald arrived in Hawke’s Bay with a love for making wine and everything he owned packed into the back seat of a small car. A green-horn cellarhand doing his time on the winery floor, and frankly loving every minute of it. No amount of day-dreaming then could have predicted that a patch of dirt on the East Coast of the North Island, New Zealand, would be where Rod landed, settled in and started to dig into what makes great wine taste like where it comes from. Now branded as Te Awanga Estate, Rod and his team continue to produce beautiful wines from Hawke's Bay across a variety of different styles, all of which showcase the Hawke's Bay region to the fullest degree.
