Dark, purple-hued ruby-red colour, lighter on the rim, youthful in appearance. The nose is soft and initially restrained, but opens in volume to show a harmonious amalgam of ripe blackberry and plum fruit intermixed with subtle black pepper and Asian spice elements, lifted red florals and nutty oak. Medium-bodied, the mouthfeel is soft, smooth-flowing and supple, with gently melded waves of flavour. This has blackberries, dark red plums, black pepper, spices and florals, along with nutty oak. The fruit is supported by very fine-grained tannins and integrated acidity, lending a plush, soft textures. Some acid piquancy emerges, leading the palate to a lingering finish of liquorice. This is a soft, plush and harmonious Syrah with interwoven flavours of black fruits, pepper, florals and spice with nutty oak.

How's it taste?

Hawke's Bay Syrah with all of the nut spice Hawke's Bay farm. Rod know how to make Syrah, and this red balances out pepper gilded red fruit aromatics with more juice and plumpness on the palate. Ripe and classy

How was it made?

Nose: Hailing from the excellent 2014 Hawke’s Bay vintage comes this medium-bodied Syrah. Aromas of violet and cassis

Palate: Thyme and dark plum with some earthy notes. Chalky tannins add structure, power and precision, and lead into a long, dry finish.

Who made it?

About 25 years ago, Rod McDonald arrived in Hawke’s Bay with a love for making wine and everything he owned packed into the back seat of a small car. A green-horn cellarhand doing his time on the winery floor, and frankly loving every minute of it. No amount of day-dreaming then could have predicted that a patch of dirt on the East Coast of the North Island, New Zealand, would be where Rod landed, settled in and started to dig into what makes great wine taste like where it comes from. Now branded as Te Awanga Estate, Rod and his team continue to produce beautiful wines from Hawke's Bay across a variety of different styles, all of which showcase the Hawke's Bay region to the fullest degree.
