2014 Montvalley Reserve Hunter Valley Shiraz

2014 Montvalley Reserve Hunter Valley Shiraz

$19.99

From an outstanding vintage, the growing season weather perfect for shiraz. The colour is bright crimson-purple, the bouquet a spray of red and black fruits with touches of spice and earth, the palate only just into medium-bodied territory, but all the better for that, the finish exuberantly juicy.

How’s it taste?

Bright leather and plum aromatics are supported by typical Hunter earthiness on the palate with supple tannins and oak. Classic Hunter.

Who made it?

John and Deirdre Colvin bought 150 acres of vacant land at Mitchells Road, Mount View in the Hunter Valley in January 1998. Having looked at dozens of properties over the previous decade, none had appealed until they saw Montvalley. The name Montvalley is a derived name, and reflects the fact that the vineyard is nestled in a beautiful valley in the midst of the Brokenback Ranges. The name Colvin means valley (col) of the vines (vin). So the name Montvalley reflects the area and the origins of John’s family. Montvalley is set in a spectacularly beautiful mountain valley that is hidden away in one of the most southerly parts of Mount View. The landscape is rural and was previously used for grazing, and it took a number of years to clear and restore. but the journey and hard work has paid off, with the winery winning its first award in 2003, and many more in the years following. In 2013, winemaker Daniel Binet joined the Montvalley team to head up their production.
