Again from the suzukii year, the 2014 Alsace Pinot Gris Vendanges Tardives Cuvée Laure shows some volatile flavors along with the spiciness of a tête aux moines cheese. The fruit is pretty clear and fresh since it was harvested sooner than the grand cru. On the palate this is a very elegant and pretty bright Pinot with good acidity and tension. Its tight and firm, very mineral and displays a lot of salt. The finish is grippy, intense and very long, and the wine is richer than the Riesling Cuvée Eric. If you are able to tolerate the nose, you might be pretty happy with this wine.

The Brief
How's it taste?
AROMA: The nose is marked, pleasant and intense. Dominated by candied and overripe scents. We perceive honey but also yellow fruits, quince, Mirabelle plum, a slight floral hint of orange blossom and a complex and smoky personality. The airing enhances the previous scents and reveals a fine pastry touch, a landed note, mushroom and white flowers. The nose reflects the beautiful ripening of the grapes. The complexity/diversity of scents is pleasant. PALATE: The onset in the mouth is moderately ample, semi-liquorish. Full--bodied. The wine evolves on a medium with a frank and nervous vivacity, marked by a sparkling note. We find the same candied aromas, dominated by yellow fruits, quince, Mirabelle plum, apricot, honey, orange blossom and still this fine and underlying complex smoky touch. The finish has a good length, 6--7 caudalies, and a frank and refreshing vivacity. The structure is dominated by richness. It is semi--liquorish, balanced/magnified by the quality of the botrytis. Wonderful sorting in the vineyards!
