Aged Hunter Valley Semillon is pretty magical, especially when it comes from a great vintage and established vines.

This Bilgavia ticks all those boxes. From a prime spot at Broke in the Hunter Valley that had vines way back in the dawn of the Hunter Valley in the 1820/30s, this classic white has those lovely citrus characters and then just a little waxy toasty bottle aged flavour too.

Complexity, freshness and length, all delivered at low alcohol. Mighty appealing wine!

Expert Reviews

95 Points - Nick Butler - The Real ReviewBright, lemon-toast and lanolin. Bouquet is complex. Freshness is assured. Everything in it right place. Classic style with a bright future
92 Points - Campbell Mattinson - The Wine FrontIncredibly youthful. Lemon sorbet, whispers of grass, a gentle waxiness and the slice of citrus. This is fresh and lengthy; at five years of age it’s not yet in its drinking prime, though it’s very close. Pristine semillon, still building. 92.5 Points

How's it taste?

Buttered toast, with a touch of waxy lemon, lime zest and lanolin aromas. The palate is fresh and vibrant, with more of that buttery, toasty character coming through. Stunning wine from a tremendous vintage.

Who made it?

Bilgavia Estate is a family-owned producer located at Milbrodale, within the Broke Fordwich region in the lower Hunter Valley.

Historically the grapes grown on the Bilgavia Estate vineyard were sold to local winemakers, with a small parcel made into wine. With a recent change in ownership, the brand has undergone a reinvigoration, with more care in the vineyard, new packaging and a greater focus on wine quality.

The estate has 17 hectares of Shiraz, Verdelho, Chardonnay and Semillon - the classical Hunter Valley varieties. Intriguingly, the estate had vines on it way back in the 1820s.
