2012 Poderi Aldo Conterno Bussia Romirasco Barolo DOCG

Rich, flint ruby. Opens on the nose with emphatic earthy notes of anchovy, truffle, then lots of wild raspberry and plum. On the palate exceedingly compact and dense, with ripe plums and pomegranate, very dense, gripping tannin. Builds towards a long finish with firm drive. Read more

Poderi Aldo Conterno's Bussia Romirasco sees a few extra months of oak aging. The 2012 Barolo Bussia Romirasco greatly benefits from that extra wood. Because the fruit in 2012 is less expressive overall, the Romirasco signature touch bodes well for its texture, heft and its aromatic delivery. This Barolo offers pretty richness and density with thick lines and deep concentration. The oak needs more years to integrate, but I feel confident that it will reach harmony, with time, given the wine's generous structure and fruity richness.

Tasting Notes

Perhaps the most important vineyard of Poderi Aldo Conterno, from "Romirasco" are sourced the majority of grapes that contribute to the most famous of Barolos of Monforte, the "Granbussia". Round, rich, a perfectly integrated structure with dense tannins and extraordinary complexity, arethe hallmarks of one of the most shining examples not only of the Poderi Aldo Conterno but of the whole municipality of Monforte.
