Critic Reviews

Very Sauvignon aromas, lovely fresh herbaceous character. The wine has a fine freshness to it, light, with fruity grapefruit and lime flavors.

Black cherry, plum, tar and mineral flavors show good density in this solid red. The tannins are firm, balanced by crisp acidity. A touch cherry, but fruit emerges on the finish. Drink now through 2015

While soft, tasty, and delicious, this wine is not very concentrated. It should drink nicely for 3-4 years.

3 Stars. Black-red, ripe, slightly smoky blackcurrant nose, good depth of fruit, quite a bit of depth and good potential complexity. Drink 2013-18. 16/20

Trinkreife 2013-2022 16/20

Greyish crimson. Very little nose. Lightly fizzy. Easy, not one of the most ambitious. Perfectly ok but as though it were picked a little early. Drink 2013-19 16/20

Fruit noirs, cerise burlat, joli nez assez complexe, bouche ronde, douce, vendanges bien mûres, du moelleux.... Garde : 8 ans. 14/20

Tasting Notes
Deep garnet in appearance. Typical Pessac-Léognan character on the bouquet, with a smoky, fruity note of cherry and dark fruits. Immediately smooth, the wine is rounded and generous, while mouth-coating, fine-grained tannins lend structure. Bags of character to Château La Garde’s second wine, a proud exemplar of the character of the terroir.
Winemakers Note
A member of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux and Academie du Vin de Bordeaux, Château Rahoul boasts a great diversity of terroirs. The Château now ranks among the finest of the appellation. The Graves red reveals great finesse and elegance. Painstaking work in the vineyard and constantly updated practices have resulted in the creation of very charming red wines, where the complexity of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot enhance fruity, elegant Merlot.
The Vintage
The 2008 vintage was in many ways changeable and unpredictable, but turned out superb in the end. It took until September for Mother Nature to show her true colours. After an uncertain spring and a generally fresh summer, record sunshine in July and the Indian summer in September and October ensured perfectly ripe grapes and a perfectly healthy vineyard. The first mapping of water levels carried out on the estate allowed for even more precise selective harvesting. But it was the harvesting date that was the overriding factor in this vintage.
