{"title":"Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey","description":"The building that would eventually become the estate of Lafaurie-Peyraguey was built as a fortified keep in the 13th century. It served as military post until 1618 when it was sold to Raymond Peyraguey, and the vineyards around the estate were established.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\r\nFollowing the French Revolution, in 1796, the estate and lands were acquired by Pierre Lafaurie, who added his name to the existing one of Peyraguey. Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey was born.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\r\nThe Estate has changed hands a few times over the years, but the quality of the vineyards and the winemaking have ensured Lafaurie-Peyraguey has remained one of the most impressive houses in Sauternes.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\r\nIn the 1855 Classification, this consistent quality lead Lafaurie-Peyraguey to be awarded the Premier Cru Grande Classe status, alongside their neighbour, Chateau Yquem, and esteemed producer Chateau La Tour Blanche.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\r\nIn 2014 the estate was purchased by Silvio Denz, the entrepreneur behind several other Bordeaux Chateaux, as well as current chairman of Lalique Crystal.
