Mitchell Wines
Close
Jane and Andrew Mitchell established the winery in 1975 on the Mitchell family property in the western hills of the Clare Valley in South Australia. An old sandstone apple store was converted to serve as a rustic cellar door sales area. Continued growth has resulted in further development of the winery buildings and winemaking plant. Currently, some 500-700 tonnes of premium fruit is crushed and processed in a well equipped modern winery. The imposing two-storey century-old family home sits amid the vineyards, overlooking the winery. Andrew and Jane Mitchell's Watervale Rieslings are ideal for those who frequently find Australian dry Rieslings too one-sidedly acidic. In that context, these are wines for silk fetishists, but they still have great staying power in any context.
