Petit Verdot

Petit verdot has a long history in the French region of Bordeaux where it is used extensively in a classic blend with cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot. There are some examples of straight varietal petit verdot from warm Australian regions but it figures more commonly in traditional blends. Petit verdot is a late ripening grape with thick skin and high acidity. As a stand alone varietal, it produces brooding, deeply coloured wines with violet aromatics, blueberry fruit and firm, structural tannins.
