Malbec hails from the Cahors region of south western France and has become one of the starring varieties in the new world wine country of Argentina. The variety produces deeply coloured wines with robust tannins and plummy characters. Australia is home to some ancient malbec vineyards located in the Barossa Valley. There are some good examples of single varietal malbec here, however, it is most often used for blending with cabernet sauvignon.
